Pheana Sopheak
Pheana Sopheak is a professional committed to the preservation of history, the promotion of social justice, and fostering regional collaboration. As the Director of Chinese Research & Mass Communication at the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam), she works to ensure that disadvantaged communities in post-genocide Cambodia have access to vital historical information. Her work focuses on fostering intergenerational healing and reconciliation, preserving the memory of the Khmer Rouge genocide to build a more equitable future. Moved by the firsthand accounts of survivors, Pheana co-authored a nationally-adopted history textbook and spearheaded youth training initiatives to document thousands of survivor stories. These efforts culminated in the D News digital platform, which preserves narratives of resilience and determination while raising awareness of the health challenges faced by survivors. Recognizing these critical health issues, she helped produce a health booklet that has been distributed to marginalized communities in some of Cambodia’s most remote areas. Pheana’s ongoing mission is to transform the booklet into an accessible resource for illiterate communities, ensuring that no one is excluded from vital information. Through the Equity Community, she seeks to refine her skills and collaborate with others to drive impactful, inclusive initiatives that promote healing and justice.
