Socheata Sim
Socheata Sim is a development worker committed to climate justice. In her current role as Program Manager of Oxfam Mekong Regional Water Governance Program, Socheata centres the voice, agency and leadership of women and marginalised communities throughout water governance processes in the Lower Mekong Basin. In the face of the global climate crisis, Socheata advocates for more resources and platforms to support the most vulnerable riverine communities who suffer the greatest impact. For more than ten years, Socheata has worked to create spaces where women, underprivileged and Indigenous groups can express their identities, share their experiences, and voice their aspirations. A key milestone in her career was convening the Asia Women and Rivers Congress in 2024 which brought together 125 women leaders from 18 countries, representing riverine and Indigenous communities, civil society, academia, and policymakers to address the challenges of climate change in transboundary river basins across South and Southeast Asia. Prior to her work at Oxfam, Socheata served in various roles in international NGOs, focusing on women’s rights and women’s Empowerment, Health Policy Research, and Grassroots Research and Documentations. Socheata hopes to build greater understanding and allyship towards driving climate action, social justice and equity through her involvement in the Equity Community.
