Ferena Debineva

Ferena Debineva is a social psychology researcher and gender equality advocate specializing in sexual and reproductive health and rights. She works at the Social Intervention and Crisis Laboratory in the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Indonesia, where she designs and implements inclusive, evidence-based interventions to address systemic inequities in health and social services. Ferena’s personal struggles in accessing local resources on sexuality shaped her dedication to fostering equitable and impactful dialogue within marginalized communities. In 2014, she founded the Support Group and Resource Center on Sexuality Studies Indonesia, which has since grown into a dynamic network spanning universities across Bali and Java. This initiative creates safe, accessible spaces for academic and community-based conversations about sexuality, gender, and rights, empowering individuals to challenge stigma and advocate for change. Notably, Ferena has also been involved in advocacy against restrictive revisions to Indonesia’s Criminal Code (KUHP) through programs supported by the Indonesian Planned Parenthood Association. An avid fiction writer, Ferena uses storytelling to connect people and ideas. Her articles, stories, and policy papers highlight issues faced by women and the LGBTIQ+ community. Through the Equity Community, Ferena aims to collaborate on initiatives leveraging digital transformation to promote equitable healthcare access and combat stigma against marginalized groups.
